Our
fast-growing company offers computer service to business and
residential customers throughout Wake County, the Durham/Chapel
Hill/Carrboro area, the Greensboro/Burlington area and the
Wilmington NC area. We are
currently accepting applications for Part-Time Field PC Technicians (an
independent contractor position) who reside in
the
Raleigh/Durham area. Availability should include 2-3
evenings per week as well as most Saturdays (Sundays are
optional).
The primary
function of this position is to perform on-site hardware &
network installations, troubleshooting and repairs on PC-based
equipment at both residential and business customer locations.
This position requires technical skills and people skills.
Successful candidates must have demonstrated skills as a problem
solver/master troubleshooter. He/she will be resourceful and
know where to find answers to customer's system problems. Success depends on applying process
thinking and documenting solutions.
Our top
priority is client satisfaction. Tech Wizards service
appointments are usually scheduled within
24-48
hours, with four-hour “on-call” service to corporate clients.
Professionalism, customer focus, efficiency, creativity and
common sense are crucial personality traits. Customers arrange
service calls through our Main Office, and Tech Wizards Field
Service
Technicians travel to the customer's site within 30 minutes of the
scheduled appointment time. The prescribed installations,
repairs or maintenance is then performed on-site. Occasionally,
when deemed appropriate, hardware is removed from the customer's
location and repaired off-site, then returned to the customer's
location (usually within 2-3 business days). For this reason, a
high-speed (broadband) Internet connection is a requirement of
the position. Each call is thoroughly documented
via our proprietary online reporting system.
Duties include
(but are not limited to): On-site computer solutions for
Windows-based PCs; troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of all
manner of hardware, software issues, and network connectivity
(wired and wireless) issues; system installations and upgrades;
software installations and upgrades; and (for qualified
technicians) network installations and upgrades.
These
positions are contract positions and are compensated on a
job-by-job basis via a weekly commission payment issued to the
independent contractor, with a Form
1099
issued at the end of each calendar year. Part-Time Field
Service Technicians
demonstrating the qualities listed below will earn between $40
and $60 per on-site billing hour (depending on technician's skill level, type
of customer, and nature of service call).
Job
Requirements
-
A+ and/or
Network+ certification (or better) preferred. However,
applicants with very strong hands-on experience will also be
considered
-
Field
service experience (especially as a contractor) will be a
major plus, although strong similar in-house experience will
be considered

Strong
hardware repair skills, including troubleshooting all
internal PC components
-
Strong
software troubleshooting skills, including troubleshooting
all Windows operating systems, Internet Explorer, Outlook
and Outlook Express, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel &
PowerPoint)

Strong
Windows-based network connectivity troubleshooting skills
(wired and wireless)

Working knowledge of
Microsoft Server and/or Microsoft Small Business Server will
be a major plus

Strong
analysis and organizational skills are imperative with
demonstrated capability for problem determination and
resolution

Must be
able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously
and properly prioritize client issues and needs

Must be
able to work independently (with little supervision) and
complete work within specified deadlines

Professionalism, integrity, attention to detail, punctuality
and a positive, customer-focused attitude are imperative
-
Must be
able to communicate professionally to clients and management
both verbally and in writing
-
Excellent
customer relations skills with ability to communicate
technical issues in “plain English” (rather than “geek
speak”) and willingness to market and promote services as
appropriate

Flexibility with work schedule (typical availability should
include a minimum of half-day Saturdays and some weekday
evenings). Although as an independent contractor you will
decide when you work, income will be dependent on your
availability and schedule flexibility

Timely and
accurate preparation and submission of paperwork and online
reports
-
Must be
able to pass drug test and a criminal background check, have
a clear Motor Vehicle Record (other than minor traffic
violations), and pass a credit check (must have stable
credit history)

Position
requires a cellular phone, a Windows-based PC, and access to
a high-speed broad-band Internet connection (for occasional
service/repairs that cannot be completed onsite). As an
independent contractor, none of these items will be provided
to you, nor will their cost be reimbursed to you by Tech
Wizards LLC. However, the expense of these items may be tax
deductible. Consult your tax advisor for more definitive
tax information.

Contractor Agreement. Because the document contains
